Wellbeing tools for teachers

26th March 2019, Thimphu

The honorable Minister of Education, His Excellency Lyonpo JB Rai, received Dr. Daniel Cordaro and Dr. Dorji Wangchuk from the Contentment Foundation.

The foundation is involved in research on wellbeing and has developed tools for teachers to bring wellbeing in schools and classrooms through four pillars of mindfulness, contentment, community and self-curiosity. It was developed by researchers and educators from around the world – including top university such as Yale and University of California at Berkeley.

The team briefly appraised the honorable Minister on the wellbeing tool and curriculum and experiences from the schools in the US. The honorable Minister was particularly interested to learn from the Corbett Prep School in Tampa, Florida, where it was tested in the last 5 years.

The honorable Minister welcomed the whole idea in principle and suggested the team to make detailed presentations to the relevant divisions of the ministry in the coming days – to pave the way forward. His Excellency also shared some of the key challenges faced by the education system today.

The meeting was attended by the Director General of Department of School Education, Karma Tshering, and three members of the foundation.
