Staff Profile

Tashi Namgyal was appointed as the Director of the Department of Education Programmes in December 2022. Prior to the appointment, he held the position of Director for the Department of Curriculum and Professional Development. He also served as the Director of the Department of Adult and Higher Education. He started his civil service journey as a teacher in 2002 at Trashiyangtse Lower Secondary School where he served for seven years. Between the years 2010-2016, he worked as a Vice Principal and Principal at the Bayling Higher Secondary School and Rangjung Higher Secondary School. He later served as a Chief Dzongkhag Education Officer in Thimphu from 2017-2021. He holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the National University of Singapore and a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the National Institute of Education, Samtse. He was awarded the National Order of Merit in 2015 for his outstanding contributions to the Education Sector. He hails from Kanglung in Trashigang.
