National Skills Competition 2024

The Department of Workforce Planning and Skills Development (DWPSD), Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD) will be conducting the National Skills Competition 2024 (NSC 2024) from 20th to 23rd April 2024 at the Jigme Wangchuck Power Training Institute (JWPTI), Sarpang. The event will provide an opportunity for Bhutanese youths to showcase their talent and skills. The overarching theme for NSC 2024 is “Empowering Skills, Building Future, Fueling Nation Building.”

The following are the trades for NSC 2024:

Target Group:

Skilled technicians in the identified trades, TVET graduates/trainees in the TTIs/IZCs or private institutions, and industry professionals in the identified trades can register for the competition.

Eligibility Criteria:

The competitors must fulfill the following criteria:

  1. Must be a citizen of Bhutan;
  2. Must be between 18-25 years old (born between 20/04/1999 and 01/01/2006);
  3. Industry professionals other than TVET graduates must have a minimum work experience of 1 year in the trade applied for the competition.
  4. Must be participating for the first time (previous competitors are not eligible).

Awards and Prizes:

The top 3 winners of the competition will be provided with gold, silver, and bronze medal/plaque and certificates along with a cash prize as mentioned below;

The winners of Gold in each trade except Lhadri, Patra, and Troezo will be provided with an opportunity to compete at the WorldSkills Asia and WorldSkills Competitions.

Competition Format:

The team for competition for a trade comprises a Competition Committee Person (CCP), Chief Expert (CE), Deputy Chief Expert (DCE), Expert (E), Competitors, and Workshop Manager (WM). While the CE, DCE, and WM will be nominated by the Competition Committee, the competitors from the private institutions, and industry professionals participating as competitors should be accompanied by a CCP and a competent Expert in the trade they are participating. However, this requirement is subject to change.

The competitors will be assigned a test project in their respective trades to be completed within three days with a fixed time frame. These test projects are designed by the Chief Experts who will oversee the assessment. The details of the competition format and rules will be provided after the verification of the competitors which is tentatively scheduled on 1st April 2024.
